Having to wear full personal protective equipment (PPE) can indeed be a significant hindrance when photographing on site, especially in environments that are both dynamic and demanding. The layers of protective gear, while essential for safety, can restrict movement and add an element of discomfort that may affect the overall shooting experience. Nevertheless, the importance of adhering to safety protocols cannot be overstated; when the situation calls for it, one must prioritize safety above all else. So here I am, fully equipped as a photographer, donning the complete set of PPE, which includes a sturdy helmet, protective goggles, gloves, and a respirator, all designed to shield me from potential hazards in the environment. Additionally, I have a hazardous gas detector securely attached to my gear, ensuring that I remain aware of any dangerous gases that may be present in the vicinity. This device is crucial for monitoring air quality and ensuring that I can operate safely while capturing the necessary images.
This particular shoot is a commissioned project for Natara Global, a company known for its innovative approaches and commitment to safety in industrial settings. The location for this assignment is Billingham, an area that is rich with industrial history and activity. As I navigate through the site, I am tasked with documenting various aspects of the operations, which requires not only technical skill but also a keen awareness of my surroundings. Each click of the shutter aims to capture the essence of the work being done here, showcasing both the machinery and the people who operate it, all while ensuring that I remain compliant with safety regulations. The challenge of balancing artistic vision with the constraints of my protective gear adds an interesting layer to the creative process, pushing me to think outside the box and find unique angles and compositions that convey the story of Natara Global effectively.
