The brief was to photograph staff members at Servace, a relaxed style of portrait photography, specifically utilising a clean white background to emphasise the individuals without any distractions. To achieve this, I meticulously scouted the premises to find an ideal location that would serve as the backdrop for the portraits. After evaluating several options, I discovered an area that had an abundance of natural light filtering in through large windows, creating a soft and inviting atmosphere. This natural illumination is crucial in portrait photography, as it enhances the subject's features and contributes to a more authentic representation. Additionally, I employed a reflector to further soften any shadows that may have been cast across the subjects' faces, ensuring that the lighting was flattering and even, which is essential in capturing the essence of each individual.
In portrait photography, especially in a corporate setting, it is vital to create an environment where the subjects feel at ease. This sense of comfort allows for a more genuine expression to emerge, capturing that fleeting moment when the person being photographed truly shines through with their unique personality. This is where the art and skill of photographing employees in a company and business environment come into play. It requires not only technical proficiency with the camera but also an understanding of human emotions and interactions. Engaging in light conversation and establishing rapport with each staff member can significantly contribute to relaxing them, enabling their true selves to surface. This approach not only results in more compelling images but also reflects the culture and values of the organization. By carefully balancing professionalism with a personable touch, I aim to create portraits that resonate with authenticity and warmth, ultimately showcasing the diverse personalities that make up the team at Servace.
